Bear of the Day

I can't stop with the bears. This bear turned into a color study as much as anything else. I posted a different version the other day and I wasn't really happy with it. This might be more of a complete thought.

Sketchbook Heads

The sketchbook exercise is all consuming. A page a day is all I ask. These guys could be part of the British Royal family.

Tinkers Island Runes

These two designs are based on runes found on the fabled Tinkers Island. They might make great TShirts.

Sketchbook Dog Daze

My sketchbook is filling up. My postings have slowed down. The dogs are fun to do. A couple of pages have dogs smoking. They really shouldn't be able to afford smoking.

Clownz

I am looking for the new Crusty the clown. I ran out of ideas after a while. There has to be some styles of clowns that I have missed. Oh, yeah, the bankers. Clowns in suits. Its been going on for too long.

Pizza Chef

Can you really be a pizza chef? I have had some good pizzas before but I think they were made by some high school kid. Probably a senior though, you wouldn't let freshman or sophomores near the oven. That word chef gets used quite liberally these days. Alot like the word artist.

OpeningDay @ Fenway

Winless in six games and the home opener at Fenway is at 2pm today vs the Yankees. The Sox are on everyones mind. Maybe the turkey will lay an egg that looks like a baseball. Only 156 borefests left.

3 29

I liked this page. And that's all it takes.

CoffeeTime Sketch

Another day, another page. Guys today. These are not people I see, they are just creations. But the guys head at the bottom is the only real person. And I only started with it. His beret did not inflate.

The Fast Food Zone

Another fun little job for Patti Williams at the ZoneLabs. Some fast food icons. A cold drink, a hamburger and a small fries. I haven't eaten like that in years but I remember what it looks like. Enjoy!

PowerCouple

I love pencil sketching. I want to try a fountain pen and see how that works for my style. I read the mad ramblings of fountain pen users that love the flex of this tip and this ink. I just want to try one. The right one I guess. I will have to pay more attention to the pros.

Tuesdaysketchday

A page a day. That's all I ask. It's a good work out and I think the work shows. I like the basketball team on the bottom. It is March Madness after all.

The Morning Caffeine Sketch

The St Paddy's Day scribble. I have been into these very skinny people for a few weeks.

AquaCulture

Another sketch today. The fishing industry is a changing. I think I will change this to have the fisherman reading a book that he is holding in his right hand. I'll try this in Illustrator.

UrbanFarming

Free Range Chicken Farming in your backyard. Alot of work for a few good eggs. I only have a Free Range cat

MHTV logo

Our local town cable TV station had a contest for a new logo. I never win these things but I won this one! King for a day. I found a CD that had some images that I thought I had lost. Good for me and my illo blog. I'm post crazy today.

SpringTraining

I am on a torrid pace with my new sketchbook. Spring training is in the news and I have some ideas as to what really goes on down there in Florida. Players practice everything. Putting on uniforms, taking off uniforms. Media relations, pubic relations - I mean public relations or relations with the public. Major league stuff.

I Walk I Rock

My town tried to get kids to walk to school. Good idea, right. Well I did this shirt design for the group but the town stalled the initiative. Worried about liability. What a world. Common sense loses out to liability.

Setting the pace

Every good race has a rabbit out front to set a fast pace. Mine is just more real, a jack rabbit. Not some bunny.

Sunday session

A lazy Sunday start. Fill up on coffee and fill a page. I think I will try to convert the runners up on the top to illustrator. My second favorite thing to do.

RainDance

There has got to be an update to April showers bring May flowers since it is raining in March. Here goes - March rain is a royal pain. March is rainy, spring is gaining. March rain melts the glaciers away. I'll keep working on it.

Kids of Feb

A few simple kids done in Feb for Marianne and her never ending science projects.

The Daily Facebook

One of the many days that I have been drawing faces. Men, women, serious, cartoony. No one you know. But that one guy does look like the edge of U2. I wasn't trying.

Late Valentines Day

The skull and cross bones is an icon. It is also in a million different forms. This one came to me during my morning coffee/drawing session. I'm not 100% on the arrows. If it is a Valentines Day image then I can live with Cupids arrows.

Rookies

Another illustrator piece. This was one of my daily sketches that I thought would be worth doing on the computer. I am also a football fan so it makes sense. Build up the portfolio with strong pieces, ok strong players. One of my thoughts was to show my phone number in three different pieces, so here is the area code.

The Money Tree

I had this idea one day and sketched it out. Then it took a few days to figure out how I wanted to go from there. My second favorite subject is pencils. Bears are number one and pencils are close behind. I guess that is why I love Black&White. I have done my share of graphite pencil drawings. Some day I will have a show of all of them. I am still trying different styles with the computer. I love the flat color. No gradations allowed today.

A Real Player

The ultimate young baseball player can hit, catch, steal bases and conduct a coherant interview. Remember these are only young kids. Being comfortable at the mic is as valuable as hitting a 90 mph split finger fast ball. The TV jobs are probably fewer than the major league jobs. I had fun doing a little watercolor. I haven't done that in a while. I finally tried some things with my scanner and it did a decent job.

Sketchbook Ballet Dancers

I have been drawing for a good half hour each day and it is a great exercise. I think I will post more of the pages. This was from a photo in the NYTimes/The Arts/2 17 2011. Andrea Mohin photo of ballet dancers. Great Photo. The Thursday Times is the best. Arts section, Style section. Long may it live! I am usually alot more cartoony but not that day. I like to sketch people at the local SBucks. They are rarely portraits of that person. I catch one part of a face that interests me and then I make the rest work. Quick studies. I do learn alot.

Cable Connection

Simple isometric view of an internet cable connection. I am trying to round out my digital portfolio with some technical kind of illustrations. Not every job is creative. Isn't this the piece that always breaks?

Devil Girls

Valentines Day is approaching and I had to do some devilish girls. Fun sketch that I had to finish. All done in illustrator. Happy Valentines Day to all and to all a good night.

Library Birds

The town library is having a poster contest. Do a picture of your pet. My apologies to Nina, our cat, but these guys are more fun to draw. All done on the computer. I wonder what I could do if I had a good MAC. Apologies to this older eMAC that has been serving us for some time.

Computer Science

Who knows what is inside these laptops today. Do kids still want to tear things apart like we used to do to old tube and transister radios? I hope so.

Getting in the ZONE

A nice project from Patti Williams at Zone Labs. Some instructions for cooking pasta. Sounds simple but not everyone cooks. All done in illustrator. Place this one in the portfolio. Nice bread & butter type work.

Freakin Sinatra

I can not stop drawing bears. Especially in the winter. While they hibernate, they are easier to get to pose. This is Ben singing in his A cappella group, The Grizzly Freakin Man Singers. I just haven't done the rest of the group.

Team Players

Does one man get the award? Maybe in his head. It takes a team to get ahead. So in my quest for new work I am going to do new digital art. Its fun. Its colorful. Its marketable. I will get all of my characters and all of my styles to get new work. Bring on the new clients. They will get the awards when they use my illustrations.

Back to Drawing

This was done while I was idle at the FlyFishing Show in Marlboro, MA Jan 14-16. How does one get customers to your booth while others are trying to attract them to their booths. Honey doesn't always work. I know the product is good and unique to the show. I can't always rely on my brilliant smile.
